Kurt Cobain’s Nirvana

Nirvana, according to Muslim culture occurs when you leave your life on earth and be reincarnated to another time. To some, Nirvana means an illusion or a paradise.

But, when hearing the word Nirvana, only one thing comes to mind. It’s the alternative rock band who started their journey to music since in 1987. The band originally started with two members namely, Kurt Cobain as the singer/guitarist and Kristv Novosellicas their bass guitarist. Nirvana went through a series of drummers from 1987 up to 1990. In the same year, Dave Grohl joined the band as the official drummer of the band. Nirvana was the only band to achieve mainstream popularity so quickly.

So far, Nirvana had released three studio albums, the album Bleach in 1980, Nevermind in 1991 and In Utero in 1993. It was in their second, Nevermind that the song entitled, “Smells like teen spirit” became popular especially to teens and rock fanatics. During its prime, Nirvana was considered to be rare band with their rock that has everything such as, industry respect, pop radio appeal and critical acclaim from different parts of the world. It even gave birth to Nirvana merchandise such us Nirvana t shirts and the likes. Almost all rock fans of that generation must have owned a Nirvana t shirt at some point in time.

The band has been involved in many issues that until now were seeking answers and explanations. One of which is the sudden shifting in their music from grunge or angry songs to poppier or happy songs. Kurt Cobain writes the songs which are mostly affected by his emotions during the day. But, according to Cobain, he is not the sole writer of the songs because Novosellic and Grohl usually decides how long will song be and how many parts it should have.

On April 8, 1994, Kurt Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home after inflicting a shotgun in his head. Immediately after Cobain’s death, he was referred to as the “voice of the generation”. Millions of fans all over the world, wearing their Nirvana t shirts, mourn the passing of an icon. Kurt Cobain may be a small, frail but handsome man, but to everyone, he will remain to be the last true rock star. Cobain was a big loss to the music industry and it’s a pity that future generations will not be able to witness the real Kurt Cobain, a remarkable artist who devoted his life to Nirvana.
